A rare pair of Chelsea `Perfume Boxes` and covers



with pear shaped bodies encrusted with small florets, the covers pierced surmounted by leaves and spiky stalks.

Provenance: Purchased by Mrs. Richard K. Mellon as a gift for Mrs. Dorothy McCutcheon, Christmas 1959, thence by descent With Ackerman Galleries, 50 East 57th Street, New York.
A similar pair is illustrated in the 1953 ‘Coronation Exhibition’ catalogue of the Antique Porcelain Company. Another pair from the Rous Lench Collection were exhibited in the Loan Exhibition of Chelsea China at the Royal Hospital in 1951 and is shown on p.17 of the catalogue.
